A famous entertainment firm i.e. HBO is under a lot of pressure after consecutive hacking attempts by various hacking groups. A major blow to HBO were the recent claims of successful hacking and leaking of scripts and episodes of Season 7 of Game of Thrones in July this year. HBO was already under a lot of scrutiny and the administration was looking into this matter. Much to their surprise, the hackers attacked again and this time not hacking HBO servers rather hacking HBO social media accounts. The news of HBO social media hacking came as a huge shock and nuisance to everyone aboard HBO administration.

A group under the name of “OurMine” made a successful attack on various Twitter accounts of HBO including their official and Game of Thrones accounts. They hacked and posted on the official Game of Thrones official Twitter account:

“Hi, OurMine are here, we are just testing your security, HBO team please contact us to upgrade the security – ourmine .org -> Contact”

Moreover, the same message was posted on Game of Thrones official Facebook account too along with another message quoting:

“let’s make #HBOHacked trending!”

After HBO social media hacking, some more texts were also posted but they were quickly removed from the social account. OurMine group isn’t a new name when talking about complex hacking. It is reputed with hacking of most famous social accounts including that of Netflix, Jimmy Wales (co-founder of Wikipedia), Facebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg and also of Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai.

HBO social media hacking is a severe blow to HBO security department after they lost 1.5TB worth of data including scripts and leaks of unaired episodes including Curb Your Enthusiasm and Insecure.

Although four people have been arrested already in Mumbai for leaking an episode of Game of Thrones before its official release but there is no deterrence seen and hackers are still putting up all efforts to cause trouble for HBO. Let us see if HBO are able to counter this hacking spree or not.
