As noted in the latest news, there are numerous loopholes being identified in different operating systems like Linux. One such vulnerability in Linux was found to be vulnerable to a mere DNS attack. The same bug was found in Ubuntu, Buster and other operating systems too. However, the claims of a researcher now that Samsung’s Tizen OS is full of loopholes has shocked the security experts.

The fact that Tizen OS is based on Linux framework raises many questions. The researcher, Andrey Karpov from Russia, has made this revelation that Tizen OS has 27,000 bugs. Andrey Karpov has used his company’s developed tool known as the PVS Studio. PVS studio is a static code analyser and after thorough research, it has found thousands of bugs that are major vulnerabilities to affect the users of this OS. Bear in mind that this OS is widely used by users of smartphones, smartwatches, cameras, smart televisions, tablets and even PCs.

The Tizen operating system that is written using the famous C and C++ programming language has approx. 72.5 million lines of code. Although, the researcher’s team didn’t analyse all lines of code but by picking almost 3 lines out of every 100 lines of code, they have found the errors to be amounting to almost 900. By statistical analysis of these number of errors, the total errors amount to almost 27,000 which means that Samsung’s Tizen is full of loopholes.

This is not the first discovery of such errors in Tizen’s coding. In April of this year, Amihai Neiderman who is an Israeli researcher quoted the coding of Tizen as “the worst code I have ever seen”. However, denial of such claims from Samsung is both shocking and worrying. After Karpov contacted Samsung they replied to his email identifying that Samsung’s Tizen is full of loopholes as:

“We are already aware that another tool can find additional defects. However, we don’t agree with that Tizen has 27,000 defects that should be fixed. As you know, many of static analysis warnings are often considered as insignificant issues.”

This statement is a mixture of denial and acceptance of the vulnerabilities identified. However, with huge prospects for Samsung of millions of devices being distributed in this year, it is vital for Samsung to correct the flaws in its new release of Tizen 4.0 which is to be released in the coming September.

For the time being, users of Tizen should use third party protection applications to keep their data safe.
