Cybercrime are costly as they cost around $445 billion a year stated by Center for Strategic and international studies.  Highly organized gangs are increasing and changing their faces rapidly. United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime has revealed that 80 percent of cyber-attacks are committed by upcoming gangs.

In this scenario IBM is unleashing its weapon against cyber-attack by training security professionals. Cybercrime is more about sharing information so that the attacks become widespread and effective.

They see internet as a platform to share ideas, collaborate work, share tools and lot more to plan and do cyber-attack. Now Technology professionals are trying hard to keep internet secure as the number of cyberattacks have increased.

Consulting group Blue lava with vArmour has conducted survey which revealed that many technology professionals have struggled to give competition to cyber attackers. They hide the details of 50 percent of cybersecurity breaches with industry groups.

IBM’S Factor

Now to find out what kind of cyber threats are taking place so that one can get a holistic view of cyber ecosystem, IBM announced an idea of social media platform and named it as X-Force Exchange. This platform ensures security professionals to collaborate and exchange information. This also includes a map that can show real cyber-attacks happening across the world.

It acts much like social media site, Pinterest wherein Users can provide information and can categorize them according to the type of threat they possess. X-Force Exchange is patent with IBM data and it includes almost 15 billion to 20 billion security events which are potential to be a threat, yet are not breaches. In example there is one malware capable of stealing thousands of dollars from business bank accounts. Caleb Barlow, IBM’s vice president of mobile management and security, told CNBC in an interview that it will allow large data sets to be shared among folks of particular industry.

Congress is still debating on the cybersecurity regulation which includes the cybersecurity information sharing Act. It does have privacy and liability issues for business to be open with threat information.

As time is now, we cannot wait for governments and open information sharing teams.
