But, after the shut down of the Silk Road 2.0, More than 410 online services like that have been targeted by the US and European authorities, and have been taken down by the officials.

Which kind of Websites are being operated?

You can call them an online black market, which is best known as a platform for selling illegal drugs, murder-for-hire services, selling other Illegal goods. As part of the Deep Web, these are operated as a Tor hidden service, such that online users were able to browse them anonymously and securely without potential traffic monitoring.

Silk Road History:

It was shut down by the FBI in 2013 and Ross William was arrested as he was the founder of this Illegal Black Market, then again Silk Road 2.0 came online, run by the former administrators of Silk Road. BUT Now again, It too was shut down and the alleged operator arrested on 6 November 2014 as part of the so-called “Operation Onymous”.

“The action aimed to stop the sale, distribution and promotion of illegal and harmful items, including weapons and drugs, which were being sold on online ‘dark’ marketplaces,” according to the Europol press release.

This Operation Onymous said to be the biggest operation which took place by the globally-coordinated efforts of the 17 nations (Including Law Enforcement Agencies in the U.S. and 16 member nations of Europol.)

In Operation Onymous, 17 people were arrested (Operators of these websites) and $1 million Bitcoin, 180,000 Euros in cash, drugs, gold and silver have been seized.

We are not ‘just’ removing these services from the open Internet, said Troels Oerting, Head of Europol’s EC3 (European Cybercrime Centre) cyber crime unit. “This time we have also hit services on the Darknet using Tor where, for a long time, criminals have considered themselves beyond reach. We can now show that they are neither invisible nor untouchable. The criminals can run but they can’t hide. And our work continues.”
