Home Depot is an American retailer of home improvement and construction products and services.
It has been confirmed by the company itself on Monday, that it has been hacked. Nearly 60 million debit and credit cards have been exposed and now It is the breach which has the highest number of cards hacked ever in the history.
Hackers targeted shoppers from United States and Canada. Nearly 60 million shoppers are reportedly said to be affected.
In a statement, Home Depot CEO Frank Blake said: “We apologize for the frustration and anxiety this causes our customers, and I want to thank them for their patience and support as we work through this issue.”
According to the company, it became aware of the breach on Sept. 2, when it started receiving calls from Banks and law enforcement. In the meantime, company is working with the U.S. Secret Service to know more about the hack and hackers.
Home Depot also said that while investigating, it didn’t find any evidence to prove about the debit cards PINs are exposed too.
Company estimated the number of affected shoppers on Thursday, which is nearly 60 Million and Criminals used unique, custom-built malware to steal numbers from Home Depot’s point-of-sale systems, it added.
