It was always a fight for the consumers in America that if you purchase a phone then it is Illegal to use that phone with any other network service provider, that means you can use only the given two Major Service providers, that is AT&T and Verizon.
But, in a recently signed Bill by President Barack Obama, Now, it is Legal to unlock you phone to freely use the it with any other network provider, without purchasing a new phone.
This Bill is known as ‘Unlocking Consumer Choice and Wireless Competition Act,’ it allows (LoC) the U.S. Library of Congress to allow cell phone owners to ‘unlock’ their devices which is default come with default service provider.
In a short description we say unlocking, SIM lock, simlock, network lock or subsidy lock is a capability built into GSM mobile phones by mobile phone manufacturers. Network providers use this capability to restrict the use of these phones to specific countries and network providers. Generally, phones can be locked to accept only SIM cards with certain International Mobile Subscriber Identities (IMSIs).
If you still don’t know what is unlocking or Sim Lock, then you can use Google to find out more about this, we are describing about unlocking, because many of you can add its mean to Jailbreaking, which is different from the unlocking.
Jailbreaking permits root access to the file system and manager, allowing the download of additional applications, extensions, and themes that are unavailable through the official App Store.
On signing the Bill, Obama said:
“The bill Congress passed today is another step toward giving ordinary Americans more flexibility and choice, so that they can find a cell phone carrier that meets their needs and their budget.”
“I commend Chairmen Leahy and Goodlatte, and Ranking Members Grassley and Conyers for their leadership on this important consumer issue and look forward to signing this bill into law.”
“As long as their phone is compatible and they have complied with their contracts, consumers will now be able to enjoy the freedom of taking their mobile service – and a phone they already own – to the carrier that best fits their needs, a statement reads on the White House website.
