A Hacker named ‘Guccifer’ who hacked emails of former U.S. president George W. Bush’s family, celebrities and the head of the Romaian secret service, now has been sentenced to four years in Jail last friday.

Who is behind the Guccifer?

Guciffer is the dubbed named by a cab driver by trade, he used ‘Guciffer’ for his online identity. He was arrested in January in Bucharest and could spend a total of seven years behind bars as he also carries a previous three-year suspended sentence.

Guccifer Hacks:

  • Guccifer got famous from 2013, when he hacked into the emails of Bush Family and posted artwork by the the former president, which included self-portraits in the bathtub.
  • In the same year, he distributed emails sent to The Former US scretrary of state Coloin Powell from European Parliament member Corina Cretu.
  • Yahoo email account of Romania’s secret services (which was being used for academic correspondence) also hacked by Gucifer.

“The aggrieved parties Corina Cretu and George Cristian Maior did not turn into civil claimants … The defendant is obliged to pay 11,000 lei ($3,400)in legal fees to the state,” the Bucharest court said on its website. It did not publish any details on his actions and said the sentence could be appealed.

US hacks were not mentioned in the court.

Guccifer used Social Engineering:

One of the method he used to get into the accounts like Facebook, Comcast Corp, AOL Inc is guessing the security questions answers.

The hacker has claimed his other victims include Tina Brown, the former editor of The New Yorker magazine; “Downton Abbey” creator Julian Fellowes; journalist Carl Bernstein and venture capitalist John Doerr.
