US Navy computers

According to a recently published report by the Wall Street Journal, US Navy Marine Corps Internet was penetrated by the Iranian Hackers, by which hackers were able to monitor unclassified voice, video and data communications of the network’s 8000,000 users all around.

During the penetration, an Iranian spyware was left behind in Navy’s systems, which was deeper and longer than previously thought, newspaper writes.

Officials were initially underestimated the skills of the Iranian hackers, none of the official email was hacked, official said.

Navy took four months to remove everything, fill security loop holes from the computer network which was attacked, the Navy took its time because it wanted to fix the underlying security weak spots, not just this particular infiltration, sources said.

This Cyber-attack cost the Navy at least $10 million to patch everything ok like it was, Broader defenses put in place at the Defense Department will likely cost several hundred million dollars more, the Journal reported.
