New Year starts and as well as hackers also celebrate their new year. 1st day of 2014 was not well for Skype, as their social media accounts and blog apparently hacked by Syrian Electronic Army.
SEA always popular in high profile hacks and starts their 2014 with Skype Hack.
SEA posted anti-surveillance message on the hacked accounts as well as on the video-chat service blog, their twitter message reads:
“Stop spying on people! via Syrian Electronic Army.”
Similar message was posted on their service blog, and on official Facebook account of Skype, SEA posted “Don’t use Microsoft emails (hotmail, outlook), They are monitoring your accounts and selling it to the governments. More details soon. #SEA.”
Above messages posted by SEA were removed within an hour.
Skype responded to CNET, “We recently became aware of a targeted cyber-attack that led to access to Skype’s social media properties, but these credentials were quickly reset.”
After all of this, Skype confirmed the hack and tweeted:
You may have noticed our social media properties were targeted today. No user info was compromised. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.
