Grand Theft Files

The investigators in the US have drawn a conclusion that they cannot draw a conclusion over how much data and how many classified files have been stolen from the NSA’s highly secured computer network by the former contractor of the NSA, Edward Snowden, as per the reports from the media.

“The NSA’s Hawaii facility – unlike the other facilities – is not equipped with the up to date software(s) which can keep an eye upon ‘Which’ and ‘What’ is being  accessed by their employees at a given point of time. Take into consideration the magnanimous network the apex spying agency has and the watch-work becomes even tougher, which is why the Investigators are unable to quantify the numbers” – as quoted by a senior government official to New York Times.

Edward Snowden who is an ex-NSA Contractor, aged 30, had hidden his theft by using the login IDs and Passwords of his colleagues and where there was a limited access to data he made a hostile access by breaking into the firewall of the network and it has been more than 180 days since the commencement of the investigation.

A senior government official quoted that the NSA is going crazy about the crazy act of theft from their systems because the NSA has spent millions of hours of their employees’ efforts to regenerate and reproduce the stolen documents but are still in the dark about what all he took along with him.

Post the revelations of 2010 by WikiLeaks, U.S. president Barack Obama had ordered the up-gradation of the standards, but the Snowden incidence has exposed the laggard approach in the systems of the apex spying agency that Snowden – who is living and working in the Russia on a one year asylum – was easily able to break into their systems and access the darkest of  corners.

The revelations of America spying onto foreign leaders was a concern which was exposed very recently and then the disclosures by Edward Snowden has instigated a national level debate on swelling the NSA’s powers to spy at Home and Abroad, as well. All this has left the Obama administration fuming, which got a report from the Advisory Committee – responsible for examining the agency’s operation – set-up by the President on Friday, which shall not be made public until Obama rejects or accepts the recommendations made in the report, which will be until next month.

Edward Snowden provided the documents he stole to a paltry number of media representatives, who in turn shared the documents with the News Organisations which has lead to revealing of a deep secret of the US government which is now accused of spying on government of friendly nations.

Russia has out rightly rejected to hand-over Edward Snowden to America, who has been accused by the US in June for theft of classified files and mutiny against the government.

On the contrary Edward Snowden has said that he would return to the US only when he is given immunity against arrest in the case, but what remains a question is whether Obama is ready to accept the offer considering the damage done to the National security by ‘Snowden’gate.
