Internet users in India

In fact, that underpins the Internet and Mobile association of India report. It says that amount of active Internet users in India grown for 58% since June 2012.

With this tempo India will overtake the US in Internet activity before June 2014. It comes without saying that the leading country with its web potential over 300 millions of users is China. USA takes second position with its 207 millions of Internet users.

Mostly driven by communication via simple emails, social webs, and mobile accessories providing Internet access the amount of active users reached a point of 205 million Indians. This sum will grow before June 2014 and will become 243 million.

The IAMAI report shows the activity among urban users at the point of 137 million users and expects the amount of 141 million before December this year.

It says that the main wage of its potential comes from social web users. And Facebook takes the leading position with its 82 million active users monthly.

India becomes the second largest geographical region for Facebook after the US and Canada. Facebook does not operate in China.

Also the report said Internet access from mobile devices will see huge growth in the coming years. “Mobile Internet is going to be the next game changer for Internet in India.” it added.

The leading city is Mumbai followed by Delhi and Hyderabad. The highest growth of internet users among all the top cities in India registered in Kolkata.

“The Internet in India took more than a decade to move from 10 million to 100 million and only 3 years from 100 to 200 million. From here on, we can hope to develop a robust Internet ecosystem with a multitude of local and global players and a thriving Internet economy. Internet is now, clearly, mainstream in India” said Mr. Rajan Anandan, Chairman, IAMAI.

This indicator brings Internet as a new superpower in mainstream media in India and around the world.
