Edward Snowden was awarded with the Whistleblower of the year award in Germany, as well as received a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize but now 2013 Sakharov Prize for “Freedom of Thought” also waiting for Snowden.

The European United Left / Nordic Green Left group in the European Parliament will nominate Edward Snowden for the 2013 Sakharov Prize.

The Sakharov prize has been awarded annually since 1988 by members of the European Parliament to individuals who fight for the freedom of thought and human rights.

“Whistleblower cannot be treated like criminals. They must have our protection. Edward Snowden risked his life to confirm what we had long suspecting regarding mass online surveillance, a major scandal of our times. He revealed details of violations of EU data protection law and fundamental rights,” a spokesperson for the group said.
