A Famous website for software development projects that use the Git revision control system “GITHUB” was hit by a Major DDoS Attack, Github was taken down by hackers on Thursday Morning.

Just after the attack GitHub updated that there is a Major Service Outage:

After sometime GitHub again updated the Status to confirm that it is a DDoS Attack:

Later after the above update, they wrote “The DDOS attack is VERY large, however, the site should be coming back online.“:

However, after the series of updates by GitHub, website was restored successfully and at the time we are reporting this news the website is working fine.

Here are a couple Troubleshooting tips by Streetwise if your GitHub account does appear to be down. Use these guidelines to help narrow down the cause of a service issue, courtesy of DownRightNow.com.

  • Can you reproduce the problem by repeating the same steps? If not, it may have been a temporary glitch.
  • If you’re having trouble accessing a certain web site, make sure there isn’t a problem with your Internet connection. Can you reach other web sites successfully?
  • Does the same issue appear if you use a different device or Internet connection?
  • Have you recently changed any settings or installed web browser plug-ins, firewall software, or other upgrades that might be causing trouble?
